A queer Cree-Mé's entrepreneur from Regina builds one of Canada’s most inclusive tech companies, challenging the gatekeepers of work and power by leading from lived experience.

Episode 1: Bobbie Racette- Beyond the Gatekeepers

Bobbie Racette, a queer Cree-MéEs entrepreneur from Regina, has spent her life learning what it feels like to be underestimated, overlooked, and expected to “wait her turn.” Instead, she builds her own lane. UNDERCURRENTS: Beyond the Gatekeepers traces Bobbie’s path from the Prairies into Canada’s high-stakes tech world as she grows Virtual Gurus into a company designed around real inclusion, not performative buzzwords. Along the way, the film stays close to the human cost of ambition: the pressure to lead while carrying community expectations, the exhaustion of proving her legitimacy in spaces not built for her, and the constant balancing act between purpose and survival.

As Bobbie scales the business, we meet the people whose lives intersect with her mission, workers who found opportunity through a different kind of hiring culture, collaborators who saw her values tested in real Eme, and voices that expose how funding, networks, and gatekeeping quietly shape who gets ahead. The result is a character-driven portrait of a founder, but also a grounded look at what it takes to change a system when you’re standing outside it, pushing in.
