When their village is destroyed in the siege, baker Giuseppe Rossi and his family are torn apart. Giuseppe and his wife flee in one direction, their teenage son and daughter in another, while little Federico, the youngest, is left to fend for himself in the ruins of their shattered home.

As Nazi forces occupy the village and Allied troops advance, Giuseppe faces an unthinkable choice: collaborate with the enemy to protect his family or risk everything to resist. With time running out and danger at every turn, the family must navigate a war-ravaged landscape to find each other again.
