Soul of Flamenco

Soul of Flamenco

Documentary / Feature Film

A life lived in rhythm, discipline, and fire.

A vivid, intimate portrait of Esmeralda Enrique, whose journey from Mexico City to Toronto and the global stage transformed Canada’s flamenco scene through artistry, mentorship, and uncompromising authenticity.

Alma de Flamenco follows the life and legacy of Esmeralda Enrique, choreographer, dancer, teacher, and founder of the Esmeralda Enrique Spanish Dance Company. Through rare archival footage, electrifying performance moments, and candid conversations with Esmeralda and those closest to her, the film traces a path defined by movement and sacrifice, leaving home, earning respect in a demanding art form, and ultimately planting flamenco roots deep in Toronto.

More than a career retrospective, the documentary is about cultural transmission: how a tradition survives when it’s carried across borders, taught with rigor, and protected with love as students and collaborators describe the impact of Esmeralda’s discipline and vision, a bigger story emerges, one woman reshaping how Canada sees flamenco, and creating a lineage of dancers who carry that fire forward.
