Azzurri North

Azzurri North

Documentary / Feature Film

Two flags. One game. A legacy forged on ice.

Canadian hockey players with Italian roots return to their heritage by suiting up for Italy, helping transform Italian hockey from the inside out and creating a lasting bond between two nations through the world’s fastest game.

Azzurro North follows a group of Canadian hockey players who didn’t just discover their Italian roots; they chose to live them. Drawn by heritage, opportunity, and the pull of representing something bigger than themselves, they leave the familiar rink culture of Canada to step into a country where hockey has always lived in the shadow of calcio. What begins as a passport connection becomes a deeper test of identity: new teammates, new expectations, language gaps, and the pressure of carrying both nations on their backs.

Through personal stories and key moments on and off the ice, the film traces how these players helped elevate Italian hockey, building credibility, inspiring local talent, and pushing the program toward international relevance and Olympic ambitions. In the process, Azzurro North becomes more than a sports doc. It’s a story about belonging, sacrifice, and what happens when heritage isn’t just where you come from, but something you choose to fight for.
