POWER. POLITICS. PASTA.

Exploring the journey of pasta from its humble origins to a global culinary staple, this docuseries uncovers the economic impact and the controversial use of pesticides in North America versus Italy, revealing the profound influence of pasta on human history and our modern world.

In this docuseries, we embark on a fascinating journey to explore the intricate history and cultural significance of pasta, a staple that has shaped economies and diets worldwide. We navigate through the vast wheat fields of Canada and the sun-soaked lands of Italy, illustrating the contrasts in pasta production, from the use of pesticides in North America to traditional farming practices in Italy. In Italy, we delve into the origins of pasta, uncovering rare varieties that reflect the country's rich culinary heritage. We explore the legacy of Pici, hand-rolled pasta from Tuscany; Trofie, small twisted pasta from Liguria; and Orecchiette, "little ears" pasta from Puglia. These shapes, some introduced by historical invasions or trade, such as the Arab influence on dried pasta, showcase the diversity and adaptability of Italian pasta traditions. Transitioning to Canada, we highlight how these Italian traditions are being reimagined. Artisans and chefs across Canada are replicating rare Italian pastas, infusing them with local flavors and ingredients, weaving a thread between the old and new worlds. This cross-cultural culinary exchange exemplifies the global journey of pasta, from ancient grain to modern table.
